We offer a variety of scanning options for professional photographers in order to provide
your customers what they want. Price, scan quality, type of original, file size requirements and throughput
are all variables to consider when deciding on the best type of scan for your project needs. If you need help
or information beyond what is given here, please contact one of our digital department technicians will be
glad to assist you.
Generally, an original negative will produce a better quality scan than the corresponding
print. However, sometimes you don't always have the negative handy! We scan 35mm, 120, 220 and 4"x5" transparencies
and negatives. Custom scans are dusted and colour corrected. Machine scans (from 35mm only) have NO dusting
and may require time at your computer to make them suit your particular output.
Our scans are color balanced for our Noritsu and LightJet digital photo printers. Our general
practice is to provide full tonal range RGB (or grayscale) TIFF files that are compatible with either Mac or
PC. For 4-color printing, these scans can be calibrated and separated according to recommendations from your
printer or pre-press service.
We recommend archiving scans in RGB in order to preserve tonal range, especially if digital
photographic output (transparency or print) is a possibility. Archiving an existing order to CD costs $10 and
is well worth it! |
